Chicka Chicka 123

Summery:
The book Chika Chicka 123, is an adorable 36 page book about numbers.

This book is written in a sing song manner. It starts off with the number 1 and how he raced number 2 to the top of an apple tree. If that is not enough, soon 3 joined along until we get to number 8. After number 8 is on the apple tree, number 0 is off on the side a little sad. He really wanted to join but... numbers 9-20 brush by him and climb the tree. After number 20, the book starts to skip count by ten and end with number 90. As the 0 still watches sadly, when all of a sudden there were to many numbers and they all fell out. They fall to the ground in a nice sing song manner starting with 90 and ending with 1. At this point, the number 0 gets happy and climbs the tree

At the very end of the book there is an additional page spread filled with colorful numbers from 1-100.

Pros:

  • Great introduction to numbers
  • For more advanced children, perfect for skip counting by tens
  • Filled with wonderful colors to help make number learning fun
  • Sing song books are great for children to remember
Cons:
  • This is just my opinion, but at the end of the book, all of the numbers climb back up the tree. I feel they should have ended it with zero showing that zero is nothing and there are no numbers on the tree.
Suggestions:
  • For a smaller child, as you read the number, have them try to find the number on the page. They will point to it and then have them repeat the number that you just read.
  • For an older child, as you read the book, stop right before the number. See if your child remembered the previous number and can guess what number you are about to say. If they get it correct, have them point to the colorful number on the page. If they get it wrong, remind them of the previous number and then have them point to it. Some children might have difficulty with the skip counting so you might have to tell them the number and then have them point to it.
Age Range:
  • Ages 3-8
  • Children learning to count
  • Children learning skip counting by 10
Bottom Line:
I really do like this book a lot. I find it very interactive for both parents and children. If you are one of the parents who are educating your child at home this is a great way to teach them introduction to numbers. If you are a parent looking to bond with your child while they dont realize they are learning, again this is a great choice.

I have read this book to many children and they all love it. They love the sing song way it is written along with the beautiful color in a simple white background. What ever the reason is, this book is great for children.
